Pramanta (Province of Ioannina)

It is located at about 840m elevation in the center of Tzoumerka region of Ioannina and Arta and are the seat of the municipality of North Tzoumerka. They are built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Strongoula. At the center of the village is located a perennial plane tree, the church of St. Paraskeui and the special "Arapis" fountain. On the way to the village is the Anemoprypa Cave. Pramanta is a mountain area which offers to visitors many forms of alternative tourism such as rafting, kayaking, hiking, rappel, mountain biking, e.t.c.

Pramanta or Pramanta, as it is commonly called, is 65 km. SE of Ioannina and 70km. NE of Arta, cities with daily road transport, since each of them is inhabited by more than five hundred families of Pramanthians.

The settlement, built at an altitude of 840m. amphitheatrically at the foot of Strogoula (2,107 m), perhaps the most imposing peak of the Tzoumerka, is surrounded by the settlements of Tsopela and Christ which form the ancestral cradle of the Pramanthos, on the banks of the Arachthos. The name Pramanda first appeared in written in a letter from the Venetian Republic in 1697. According to historical records known to date, the main versions regarding the origin of the name are three: Linguists Symeonides and Max Vasmer argue of the word Pramanda is Slavic. Historian Panagiotis Aravantinos mentions that the area was called Promanta because it served as a Dodoni promenade. According to oral tradition, the name came from the word "things", a terminology used even today by the ancients when referring to goats and sheep. Essentially, a rich pasture was described.

The natural beauties are endless. The main square with the centuries-old plane tree and the historic fountain "Arapis".
