Vlachs’ Festival
The cultural association “Neokastrpo” organized Vlachs’ festival in 1994 for the first time. Since then it is organized every year on Ascension Day. This custom comes to us from the animal farmers. Every year on Ascension Day animal farmers used to gather and organize a feast in order to celebrate the day of their protector, Jesus. They made roasts, stews, kousmar and yogurt. In fact they used to donate milk to the priest of every village.
This custom is revived every year by the cultural association «Neokastro». People gather and celebrate the day in Scholastis Square in Nafpaktos. Local community ladies prepare pies, bread and yogurt for the feast Breeders offer meat for stews and roasts. Visitors also participate in the preparation of the ancient dish of kousmar.
