Telescope Aristarchos

The telescope of the National Observatory of Athens named "ARISTARCHOS" is the largest telescope in the Balkans and the second largest telescope in mainland Europe, located at the top of "Neraidorachi" in Helmos at an altitude of 2,340 m.

It was named Aristarchus in honor of the ancient Greek astronomer Aristarchus.

Some features of the telescope are the large field of view that is ideal for participation in international programs, the very good quality of optics that have image clarity, remote control and programmable network operation from the headquarters of the Observatory in Athens or other collaborating Observatories Greece or abroad, equipment with state-of-the-art astronomical instruments, such as CCD cameras and high and intermediate resolution spectrometers.
