Ancient Kleitor
The Archaeological Site of Ancient Kleitora is located 3 km from the Kleitoria in the village of Ano Kleitoria.
This is one of the most important cities of ancient Azania and because it is built on a plain like other Arcadian cities and not naturally fortified hill, surrounded by strong walls for protection, which today are not preserved in good condition, because their material used in the post-Byzantine and modern times to build the houses of nearby settlements.
The wall is reinforced by distances from semicircular towers and was built during the Hellenistic period.
The latest excavations have revealed an important part of the fortification and the tower and part of the ancient theater which does not well preserved.
In front of the theater, at appropriate designated area, are given every year important theatrical performances because the conservation status of the theater does not allow the use of it.
According to tradition, the city got its name from Kleitora, son of Azana.
